July 6, 2007 (LPAC)--In preparation for the July 6 ministerial roundtable of the UN Global Compact leaders' summit in Geneva, AccountAbility, a research institute based in London, released its "responsible competitiveness index" which ranked the UK highly in responsible business. According to the Guardian, the chief executive of AccountAbility, Simon Zedek, said, "The UK is a leader in this despite recent events such as the BAE scandal."
According to the Eurasian Heritage Foundation, former BAE CEO Sir Richard Evans was a keynote speaker at the Kazakh Economic Forum in London in June. Seven years ago, while he was still with BAE, Evans helped set up Air Anstana. A year ago he was named to the Board of Directors of the huge Kazakh state-owned holding company Samruk and has been working closely with President Nazarbayev's son in law, Timur Kulibayev, who is the deputy chairman of Samruk. In the last year, Evans says, his main focus as been "to create an organization that gives foreign investors some assurance with regard to TRANSPARENCY and CORPORATE GOVERNANCE."
