June 22, 2007 (LPAC) -- Despite efforts by some of the conference organizers, the Philippines LaRouche Movement was eventually invited into the second half of the first government-sponsored conference (since the 1986 demise of nuclear power in the Philippines) on the potential for reviving nuclear power development, and quickly established the authority of the LaRouche movement on the nature and the urgency of the international renaissance in nuclear power. Butch Valdes, the head of the Philippines LaRouche Movement, had written to the organizers of the June 20 conference, co-sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Energy, and the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute, offering to present a global overview on nuclear power and its applications, but was sent a letter rejecting the offer and informing him that the LaRouche movement was not welcome at the event.
The Philippines LaRouche Youth Movement (PLYM), with several older members of the movement, attended the event anyway, but were denied entry to the morning session. A beautifully prepared packet of material was distributed outside to participants, which included the EIR "Isotope Economy" document, and EIR articles by Marsha Freeman answering the common questions about nuclear power, Larry Hecht, James Muckerheide on building 6000 nuclear plants, Tanu Maitra's report on the nuclear plant built under President Marcos (which was scrapped when George Shultz ran a coup deposing Marcos in 1986), and the EIR interview with Ronnie Velasco, the Energy czar under Marcos who had set up the Philippines energy system, including the nuclear plant which was never turned on.
Over the lunch break, the PLYM met the Minister of the Department of Energy, Raphael P. M. Lotilla, and his Undersecretary, and gave them the packet, which led to an animated discussion on the global issues involved. The Minister finally said, "You people should be in this meeting!" The PLYM explained that they had been excluded. "By whom?" the Minister roared. When shown the exchange of letters with the conference organizers, the Undersecretary marched the group of LaRouche organizers into the afternoon session as his personal guests, and told them to ask Butch Valdes to prepare a proposal for the Department's nuclear energy policy.
The person who had excluded the PLYM suddenly became totally solicitous to the Undersecretary's personal guests. The organizers divided up for the afternoon workshops and proceded to essentially take them over. Armed with both the truth about nuclear power, and the reality of the global crisis demanding a renaissance of nuclear and fusion technology, they were quickly recognized as the true authorities by most of the participants.
Needless to say, the Philippine LaRouche Movement, which had already estabished themselves by demolishing the global warming fraud at numerous events by the Gore clones in Manila, have now demonstrated the power of truth to assert leadership on the issue of nuclear power as well. More to come...
