White House Ducks Question on BAE Scandal

WASHINGTON, June 18, 2007 (LPAC)--White House press spokesman Tony Snow was compelled to call on EIR's White House correspondent Bill Jones today, but Snow clearly didn't like being asked about the BAE scandal, and he claimed ignorance of the whole matter.

"Tony, the DOJ has started an investigation, or is considering an investigation, under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, of the billions of dollars that were allegedly paid to Prince Bandar over a period from 1985 to the present, going to a variety of God-knows-what projects in the Middle East and elsewhere," Jones asked. "Given the close relationships with Prince Bandar to the Bush family, to the national security establishment here and to the Office of the Vice President, is the White House prepared to let such an investigation proceed...?"

Snow professed ignorance, claiming, "I don't know anything about it," and saying that it's a Justice Department decision, which he could neither confirm or deny.

Regardless of Snow's evasions, Jones's BAE question will be seen by millions of viewers across the country on C-SPAN and elsewhere.
