Italian Senate Publishes Summary of LaRouche's Testimony To its Committee on Defense

June 13, 2007 (LPAC)--The Italian Senate on June 12 issued a summary report of Lyndon LaRouche's June 5 session with the Senate's Defense Committee, on economic progress and military strategy. The testimony was one of a series of events of LaRouche's visit to Rome June 5-7, in which he held a public dialogue with representatives of the Senate and of the current and former Italian governments. The Senate's summary follows:

15. Legislature 4. Permanent committee Summary report n.69 of 05/06/2007

DEFENSE COMMITTEE (4.)

TUESDAY, JUNE 5 2007

69. Session

The session starts at 15.10

Chairman DE GREGORIO introduces the hearing of Professor LaRouche Jr.

Professor LAROUCHE Jr. gives a report on the issues [which are] object of the investigation. In particular, he lingers on the balance relationship between military expenses and economies both of the European countries and of the United States, a relationship from which an improvement of the living conditions of the population must derive. He lingered also on the recent foreign policy programs of the United States.

The CHAIRMAN, after having thanked Professor LaRouche Jr. for the report delivered, asks for information on LaRouche's concept of Strategic Defense Initiative, and on the recent developments concerning the implementation of the anti-missile shield.

Then, the Floor is taken, for interventions and requests of clarifications, by Senator RAMPONI (AN) (he asks what are the forecasts of stability for the current financial world; he asks whether on the large development corridors the professor has changed opinion in respect to the past, and what, in his opinion, will be the solution reached in the controversy on the anti-missile shield); Senator BRISCA MENAPACE (RC-SE) (she also asks for an evaluation on the situation of the anti-missile shield; she asks whether a stronger commitment of the youth in a civilian employment is not preferable to the military employment); Senator NIEDDU (Ulivo) (he asks, in light of the economic considerations presented, what is the solution to having supranational economical and political power coincide); Senator PISA (SDSE) (she asks what are the motivations that have led states to abandon the process of non-proliferation of weapons and how one could shift from a state of warfare to a state of welfare).

Professor LAROUCHE Jr then replies to the interventions, lingering broadly on the question of the anti-missile shield, giving his personal view of the issue, and on the military economy of the United States, today still steadily growing. He then stresses the importance of the cultural education of the young generations.

The CHAIRMAN thanks Professor LaRouche Jr. for the clarifications given and declares the hearing closed, adjourning the follow-up of the investigation.

The session ends at 16.20
